# Connect Bytown to ChatGPT

> Add Bytown to ChatGPT once and ask about your ads in any chat. The same connection works for ChatGPT dots, and Codex takes 2 lines of config.

ChatGPT adds custom connectors in developer mode. Depending on the release, ChatGPT calls them connectors, apps or plugins. On Business and Enterprise plans, an admin may need to allow them first.
## ChatGPT

### Turn on developer mode
In ChatGPT, open **Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced** and turn on **Developer mode**.

### Add Bytown
Add a new connector, app or plugin. Name it **Bytown**, paste the connector URL and choose OAuth for sign-in. Save it.

### Sign in to Bytown
ChatGPT opens Bytown's sign-in page. Sign in with email or Google, choose the business ChatGPT should work on, then choose **Allow access**.

### Ask your first question
In a new chat, turn Bytown on for the conversation and try **List my ad accounts**.
## ChatGPT dots

Dots are ChatGPT's always-on helpers, available on ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium. A dot can use every connector or plugin on your account, so once Bytown is added above there's no separate step.

### Send your dot a brief
Tell it what to watch and when.

### Add a custom rule
In **Settings → Personalization → Custom rules**, add a rule for any change to an ad account, budget or bid, and set it to **Ask before taking action**.

## Codex

Add Bytown to your Codex `config.toml`.

Then sign in once from your terminal:

## Switch business or disconnect

To change the business ChatGPT works on, open **Connections → AI assistants** in Bytown while you're in the business ChatGPT works on, choose **Disconnect** next to ChatGPT, then connect again and pick the other business. The assistant may be listed under the name it registered with, such as ChatGPT, and Codex may appear under **Other MCP assistants**. You can also delete the connector inside ChatGPT's settings.

## Common questions

### Why don't I see developer mode in ChatGPT?

Developer mode isn't on every ChatGPT plan, and on Business and Enterprise an admin controls custom connectors. Check your plan, or ask your workspace admin to allow custom connectors. Once Bytown is added, every chat and every dot on your account can use it.

### Can a dot change my ads overnight?

Every change is staged, and Bytown tells your dot to get your yes before it confirms. Your custom rule tells ChatGPT to ask before taking action, so keep it set to ask first. A change nobody confirms within 15 minutes expires with nothing changed.
