Troubleshooting AI assistants
Most connection problems come down to sign-in, plan access or a change that waited too long. Find the message you saw and follow the fix.
Messages and fixes
| You see | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A sign-in or authorization error | The assistant isn't signed in, or its sign-in expired. | Reconnect from your assistant's connector settings and finish the Bytown sign-in. |
| This assistant is no longer connected to Bytown. Reconnect it to continue. | It was disconnected under Connections → AI assistants. | Reconnect from your assistant's connector settings. |
| You no longer have access to the business this assistant was connected to. | Your access to that business was removed. | Reconnect and choose a business you can access. |
| Business's Bytown plan does not include AI assistant access. | The business has no active Pro or Max plan. | Choose a plan for that business in the Bytown app, then try again. |
| You have not been given AI assistant access on Business. | You're a team member and the owner or agency hasn't turned this on for you. | Ask the business owner or agency to grant it. |
| None of your businesses can connect this assistant yet. | Shown at sign-in when no business has a plan that includes the connector. | Choose See plans, pick Pro or Max, then connect again. |
| This change expired before it was approved. | You didn't confirm within 15 minutes. Nothing changed. | Ask again. The assistant stages a fresh change. |
| This change was already applied. | You confirmed it twice. It ran once. | Nothing to do. |
| No active Google Ads account is connected for this business. | The platform isn't connected, or was disconnected. | Connect it under Connections in the Bytown app. |
| This plan's monthly limit of approved platform changes has been reached. | The business has used its approved changes for this month. | Wait for the next billing month, or compare plans on Pricing. |
| Too Many Attempts. | The assistant sent a burst of requests. | Wait a minute and ask again. |
Common situations
The assistant works on the wrong business
Each connection covers one business. In Bytown, use the business switcher to open the business the assistant is on now, then open Connections → AI assistants and choose Disconnect next to it. Connect again from the assistant and pick the right business.
The assistant didn't ask which business to use
If the assistant still had a valid sign-in, Bytown may skip the business picker and keep the previous business. Disconnect it in Connections → AI assistants of the business it's on now, then connect again to see the picker.
The assistant can read but not change anything
Your login can read results on this business but can't make changes. Ask the business owner or agency to give you permission to make changes.
A platform is missing from the answers
The assistant only sees platforms that are connected in Bytown and included in the business's plan. Pro includes 1 ad account on any of the 5 ad platforms; Max includes all of them. Check Connections, then Plans and billing.
I can't find where to add a connector
That depends on the app and its plan:
- Claude: the free plan allows one custom connector, and team plans may need an owner to allow them. See Claude.
- ChatGPT: turn on developer mode first. Business and Enterprise admins may need to allow it. See ChatGPT.
- Grok: on Grok Business or Enterprise, an admin adds the connector. See Grok.
- Cursor: the desktop app and the web and cloud agents each keep their own list, so add Bytown to each one you use. See Cursor.
- Antigravity: open ⋯ → MCP Servers → Manage MCP Servers in the agent panel. See Google Antigravity.
The change I confirmed isn't in the Bytown app
That's expected. Changes from assistants are confirmed and applied in the assistant's conversation and don't show as cards in the Bytown app. Ask the assistant to check the campaign, or open the ad platform, to see the new value.
