Claude Connectors for Ads: What Claude Can Read and Change

TL;DR

Yes. Add an ad connector to Claude and it can read your campaigns, run audits and build reports. With Bytown as the connector, every change is staged and applies only after you say yes in the chat.

  • Setup: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste https://ads.bytown.co/mcp, sign in. Under a minute for me.
  • Claude plan: Free allows 1 custom connector; Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise allow more.
  • Bytown cost: Pro US$199/mo for 1 ad platform, Max US$449/mo for all 4; 30% off the first month.
  • Safety: set write tools to Needs approval in Claude, and Bytown still asks before it confirms.

My weekly prompt is one line: "Audit the account."

Published by Bytown: how Claude connectors reach your ad accounts, what Claude can read and change once one is connected, and every connector path for Google and Meta ads I could find on October 10, 2026.

I run my own ad accounts from Claude through Bytown's custom connector. Connecting it took me under a minute, following the instructions on the Bytown MCP page.

Bytown is my company and it's in the comparison below, so weigh my view with that in mind. Bytown is not affiliated with Anthropic, which makes Claude.

What are Claude connectors?

A Claude connector plugs Claude into an app you already use, so it can read your data there and act on it. Anthropic's help page puts it this way: "Connectors let Claude access your apps and services, retrieve your data, and take actions within connected services."

Under the hood, a connector is an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard Claude uses to talk to outside tools, and you never need to touch it.

There are 2 kinds. Directory connectors are the ones Anthropic lists, which you add with one click. Custom connectors are everything else: you paste the server's URL into Claude yourself.

Anthropic's own walkthrough of connectors, from the official Anthropic YouTube channel, December 11, 2025.

Anthropic opened its connector directory in July 2025:

We've published a directory of apps and tools that connect to Claude with one click.

How Anthropic announced the Claude connector directory on X. The post includes a short video on X.

Here's what it means.

For ads, the directory is the wrong place to start looking. 7 of the 10 ad connector paths in my table below are custom connectors or servers you host yourself, Bytown included.

What data can Claude access through connectors?

Only what your own login can reach in the connected service. Anthropic's words: "Claude inherits each person's permissions from the connected service. If someone can't access a specific file, channel, or record in the source system, the connector can't reach it from Claude either."

With Bytown connected, that means 1 business: the one you pick when you sign in. Claude can read results from that business's connected ad accounts, plus Google Analytics traffic and key events if you've connected them.

It can't see your other businesses, your Bytown password, or your Google, Meta, LinkedIn or ChatGPT Ads logins. It can't touch your Bytown plan, billing or invoices.

Full disclosure:

Whatever Claude reads lands in your Claude chat. If you ask it to work with leads or customer lists, the names, emails and phone numbers go to Claude too, so ask for what you need, not everything.

Can I run my ads from Claude?

Yes, and I do. I followed the setup on the Bytown site, and it connected in under a minute.

The first thing I asked for was an audit of my ad account. It worked really well, and as of September 30, 2026, I haven't seen any mistakes.

Then one prompt gave me a quick dashboard: a snapshot of how each campaign was doing, laid out well enough to show. I used it on a client call later the same day and shared the file with the client right away.

Here's what those moments look like. The answers below are illustrative, on a demo account, so you can see the shape of a reply.

You ask

Audit the account.

Read campaigns, search terms, ads and tracking · this month

Here's your audit, biggest money at stake first.

Spend without leads: Campaign X keeps spending but hasn't brought a lead this month.

Search terms: several searches in Campaign Y have nothing to do with your service. They should be blocked.

Tracking: form leads are counted, but phone calls from your ads aren't.

Want me to stage fixes for any of these?

Prompt 1. My weekly prompt. The depth comes from Bytown's audit tools, not the wording. Illustrative, demo account.
You ask

Pause Campaign X.

Staged a change · waiting for your yes

I've staged the pause. Nothing has changed yet: confirm below and I'll apply it.

Prompt 2. Every change arrives staged, with its before and after. Bytown tells the assistant to get your yes before it confirms. Illustrative, demo account.
You ask

Make me a one-page dashboard of this month for my client call.

Read campaign results · this month

Here's your dashboard: spend, leads and cost per lead for each campaign, a trend chart for the month, and the next changes I'd make.

It's saved as a file you can share with your client.

Prompt 3. A single prompt, a shareable snapshot. I used mine on a client call the same day. Illustrative, demo account.

Let's be honest:

My clean record is one founder's experience, not a safety system. The reason I let Claude near a live account is the mechanism behind it.

What can Claude change in your ad account?

Through Bytown, nothing changes until you say yes. Every write tool stages the change, and Bytown tells the assistant to get your yes before it confirms.

A staged change is a plain summary with its before and after, like the pause card above. It waits 15 minutes for your yes in that same chat, and it doesn't appear in the Bytown app. Say no, or say nothing, and it's discarded.

Removals exist too, and they're staged the same way. Bytown can remove a Google ad or an ad extension and archive a Meta campaign, each only after you confirm. There's no tool that deletes a Google campaign; the closest is a pause.

Here's the kicker:

Claude adds its own lock on top. For every connector, Anthropic lets you set each tool to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked.

Lock the write tools in Claude.

Open the Bytown connector under Connectors, then its tool permissions.

  • Set the write tools to Needs approval, and confirm_change in particular.
  • Leave the read tools on Always allow, so an audit doesn't stop for a click at every step.
  • Block any tool you never want used.

Bytown's rule is an instruction to the assistant. Claude's setting is a switch only you can flip, so use both.

Not every ad connector works this way. Data Bloo's write-up of Meta's own ads connector says campaigns it creates land paused, but edits to live campaigns can apply directly.

My own rule: budget, ad copy and pausing campaigns never go out on a tool's say-so. I explain why in how I scored AI tools for Google Ads.

How to connect Claude to your ad accounts

4 steps, and you sign in once. The full walkthrough is in the Bytown Docs.

  1. Connect your ad accounts in Bytown. Under Connections, connect Google, Meta, LinkedIn or ChatGPT Ads. Claude sees only the accounts you connect here.
  2. Add the custom connector in Claude. Open Settings → Connectors (newer versions of Claude call it Customize → Connectors), choose Add custom connector, name it Bytown and paste https://ads.bytown.co/mcp.
  3. Sign in to Bytown and pick the business. Claude opens Bytown's own sign-in page. Sign in with email or Google, choose the business Claude should work on, then choose Allow access.
  4. Send your first prompt. Start a new chat and try List my ad accounts. Then ask for an audit.

Add it once on the web and it follows you to the Claude desktop app and your phone. To switch businesses or cut access, open Connections → AI assistants in Bytown while you're in the business Claude works on, and choose Disconnect; access stops straight away.

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds custom connectors for the organization, so ask yours before you start.

The prompts I actually use

Look:

My weekly prompt is one line: Audit the account. The depth comes from Bytown's audit tools, not from a clever prompt.

I've also opted in to Bytown's creative improvement loop. It finds my best-performing ads, pauses the losers, "which I quickly approve", and creates more ads so winners compete against winners.

It has brought my cost per lead down, and the leads coming in are better ones. More profitable jobs, patients or customers, depending on the business.

If you're starting out, these 2 are from the sample prompts on the Bytown MCP page:

  • How did my Google campaigns perform last week vs the week before?
  • Which campaigns spent money with zero conversions this month?

Both only read. That makes them a good first week, before you let Claude stage a single change.

Which Claude plan and Bytown plan do you need?

Any Claude plan works with Bytown, because it connects as a custom connector. Claude's Free plan allows 1 custom connector; Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise allow more.

Funny enough, Bytown's plans are also called Pro and Max, and they're a different thing. Bytown Pro is US$199 a month for 1 ad platform, with standard MCP. Bytown Max is US$449 a month for all 4 ad platforms, with advanced MCP.

New customers get 30% off the first month: $139 for Pro, $314 for Max. The connector is included in both, with no add-on fee. Prices are from bytown.co/pricing on October 10, 2026.

Across Bytown customers, it's about an even split. "The users who use Pro are typically local businesses just starting with one channel, and they can use the standard connector just fine."

Max is for the businesses running more channels or more locations: "They use the connector for everything that the Pro user would, but also use it for cross-channel optimization, optimizing performance based on Meta, Google, Instagram, YouTube, and ChatGPT ads".

My estimate in September 2026: about 50% of Bytown customers use Claude, 30–35% use ChatGPT, and the rest use Muse, Grok Bot or WhatsApp, which is Bytown's own channel rather than an assistant.

Every way to connect Claude to Google and Meta ads

I found 10 paths on October 10, 2026. Some only read, some write, and only some ask before they change anything.

Prices and features come from each vendor's own page, Anthropic's directory listing, or Data Bloo's guide for Meta's connector, collected on October 10, 2026. "Not documented" means I couldn't find it on their pages, not that the answer is no.

So which one should you pick?

If you only want reports, a read-only tool is cheaper: Data Bloo's paid tiers start at $8.33 a month. If you want Claude to make changes across Google and Meta, pick one that stages every write and asks first. That's where Bytown sits, at a higher price than the read-only options.

Connectors vs skills vs plugins

A skill is a prompt file. A connector is your account.

A skill is a set of instructions Claude loads for a task, like how to write an ad or audit a campaign. It knows how to do the work, but it sees none of your data.

A connector is live access: your campaigns, your numbers, and the changes you approve. A plugin packages skills, connectors and commands so you add them to Claude as one unit, from Customize → Plugins.

In other words:

Skills make Claude better at marketing. Only a connector lets it touch your ad account. I cover the skills side in a separate guide later this month.

Where Bytown is today (Oct 16, 2026)

Bytown works in Claude today as a custom connector, and I use it that way on my own accounts. It isn't in Claude's connector directory yet. When that changes, I'll update this page with the date.

FAQ

What data can Claude access through connectors?

Only what your own login can reach in the connected service. Anthropic says Claude inherits each person's permissions from it. With Bytown, that means the ad accounts and Google Analytics data of the 1 business you picked at sign-in, never your passwords, your ad platform logins or your billing.

Does Claude Pro allow connectors?

Yes. Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise can all add directory and custom connectors, while the Free plan is limited to 1 custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds custom connectors for the organization, so members may need to ask before adding Bytown.

Is it safe to give Claude write access to Google Ads?

It depends on the connector, because some apply edits directly. Through Bytown, every change is staged with its before and after, and Bytown tells the assistant to get your yes before it confirms. Set Bytown's write tools to Needs approval in Claude as a second lock.

Can one connector cover Google and Meta?

Yes, if the connector supports both. Bytown covers Google, Meta, LinkedIn and ChatGPT Ads on the Max plan at US$449 a month, and Pro covers 1 platform. Meta's and Google's own servers each cover only their own platform, so using them means 2 separate connectors, and Google's is read-only.

What's the difference between connectors, MCP and skills?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard behind connectors. A connector is an MCP server added to Claude, giving it live access to an app with your login. A skill is a set of instructions Claude follows for a task, and on its own it reaches no data.

Does it work on the Claude mobile app?

Yes, connectors work in the Claude app on iOS and Android. Add Bytown on the web first, because Anthropic says adding custom connectors on mobile is still in beta. Once added, Bytown follows your account to your phone, where you approve a staged change the same way as on a computer.

What does Bytown cost with Claude?

Bytown Pro is US$199 a month for 1 ad platform, and Max is US$449 a month for all 4, with 30% off the first month. The connector is included with no add-on fee. Your Claude subscription is separate, and Claude's Free plan allows 1 custom connector.

Can Claude delete campaigns?

Not a Google campaign through Bytown: there's no tool for it, and the closest is a pause. Bytown can remove a Google ad or an ad extension and archive a Meta campaign, but each removal is staged like any other change and applies only after you confirm it in the chat.
